Yes!
Our daughter is still not fully diagnosed, the best they can come up with at the moment is that her behaviour is autistic, but she doesn't fulfill the diagnostic criteria for and ASD (basically, she does not respond in the same way as boys with the same issues; same problems for her with an AHDH diagnosis too).
So although we know what the problems are, and to us, she is absoultely classic for high functioning autism, because she doesn't have the full ASD (or ADHD) diagnosis, we are not able to go o any of the training courses they run in this area....aaargh!
Frustrating to say the least. |

I am so pleased to hear some speak about the girls. I agree to with Fairy's mum. My girls, because they withdraw, rather than be out there have been left so many times to the detriment of their health. All my 3 girls are ASD. I see the boys getting aides but because mine (middle 1 in particular) would just withdraw into herself, suck her thumb, rock and bang her ear to self calm is not distruptive in a classroom setting is classed as "doing just fine". The fact that she has totally shut off and is not learning doesn't matter. Same with the other two. Their anxieties are withdrawl to a lesser degree. But again. Not causing any trouble so it doesn't matter. Thank you so much for the recognition of girls. |

I completely agree that this is an oft overlooked area.. as a speech pathologist in a public school district I am frequently frustrated when trying to explain why I think a female student may have ASD to psychologists or other staff members and they compare her to male students with ASD.
