Fairwater High School to deliver special lesson to mark WAAD
CWMBRAN, Wales: To mark and raise awareness of WAAD, several key mainstream teachers in Fairwater High School here will be delivering a lesson prepared by their ASD specialist teacher which will include watching the short autism information film, ‘A is for Autism,’ and using a presentation highlighting differences, talents and similarities in ASD as well as looking at famous people with ASD.
The Fairwater High pupils will be given fact sheets and leaflets and in groups they will work together to produce display posters focusing on ‘What is Autism?’ These activities will involve year 7, 8 and 9 and a significant proportion of years 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Some pupils in the ASD resource base and in mainstream have written poems, short articles and given interviews (which have been recorded) about what it feels like to have ASD and what it means to them. They are also taking small group of pupils to Sainsbury's on WAAD to do some awareness-raising by giving out stickers and/or leaflets. (Source: Fairwater High School, April 1, 2009) |
